Why test for hard and soft rice grains?
In the rice trade, milled rice (white rice) is classified as either hard-grain or soft-grain, and the price differs accordingly.

Jasmine rice must contain at least 92% soft-grain rice.

Other fragrant rice must contain at least 80% soft-grain rice.
That’s why testing is always required — to minimize errors and protect both buyers and sellers. The standard testing method involves boiling the rice and pressing it with glass, but this process takes time, requires equipment, and can be complicated.
